With the PortableIP solution, is all traffic routed through the VPN connection?

I guess the real question is:

Will I pay for all bandwidth to and from my computer (i.e. if i watch a movie on netflix.com, will it be routed through the PortableIP server and count towards my monthly quota?), or is there a way that it only routes mail related traffic?

Re: With the PortableIP solution, is all traffic routed through the VPN connection?

It's really up to you how you want to direct the traffic.  By default, on Windows, if you configure a PPTP tunnel, it will send everything that is non-local through this tunnel.  You can configure it to not use the tunnel as its default gateway, therefore only sending reply traffic that came inbound through the tunnel to begin with.  You can also get more fancy and purchase a better router that has what's called "policy routing" - these can be had for about $100 thru www.routerboard.com.

It also depends on whether your mail server / relaying is done from your same workstation, or from a separate server on your network.  Let us know a little bit about your configuration and your needs and we'll help you figure out what is the best fit.
